Wilmington Trust Leader Spinnaker
The Wilmington Trust Leader Spinnaker at Marblehead Race Week.Wilmington Trust will award the “leader spinnaker” to the leading J/105 class boat in each day’s race, which the crew will have the honor of flying the next day. The overall J/105 winner will take home the leader spinnaker at the end of Race Week.
Wilmington Trust, a provider of wealth and investment management services based in Wilmington, Del., with a Boston office, started the Wilmington Trust Leader Spinnaker tradition in 2014 to recognize the accomplishments of the top teams in the J/105 class races during Marblehead Race Week.
“We are extremely proud about returning as a sponsorship partner for this year’s Marblehead NOOD,” said Chris Casey, Wilmington Trust’s Wealth Advisory market leader in Boston. “It’s a thrill to play even a small part in Marblehead Race Week. The technical precision of the race teams is amazing. Wilmington Trust is honored to continue to support the efforts of both the crews and the Marblehead Racing Association.”
“Wilmington Trust’s Leader Spinnaker is unique to this regatta and to the sport,” says Dave Reed, editor of Sailing World magazine, the 54-year-old sailing media brand that owns the NOOD series. “It’s an outstanding way to recognize a top team during and after the event. As intensely competitive sailors, our J/105 teams will definitely be working that much harder for the opportunity to fly it. In sailboat races it’s better to lead than follow.”
The J/105 crew with the lowest cumulative score at the end of Race Week will be awarded the Wilmington Trust Leader Spinnaker to keep at an awards party on Sunday, July 31. The spinnaker, created by internationally-recognized sailmaker North Sails, is composed of a white background with Wilmington Trust’s name and logo in black.
In 2015, the Wilmington Trust Leader Spinnaker was awarded to Allegro Semplicita, owned by Fred deNapoli.
