This coming Friday commemorates Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. In observance of Juneteenth and in unity with those who struggle with inequality, we will be closing our branches and offices at 3pm on June 19th.   We do this to provide our team members with an opportunity to reflect from a place of compassion, while moving toward a place of equality.   We are committed to positive change.   Even 155 years later, the Black community in America continues to struggle with racial injustices. Our own employees, customers and the communities we serve have felt this pain. We stand with them in support of change. We acknowledge there are systemic injustices and are committed to making changes as an organization. While we understand there is so much to do, we’re driven by the progress we’ve made. We’ve increased our diversity recruiting efforts and continued our long-term commitment to support initiatives that reach diverse communities. In 2019, we developed thoughtful and sustainable long-term plans to work toward equality for our customers. Part of this plan includes understanding how Black communities experience M&T and banking overall, so we can transform our processes and systems to not only meet their needs but provide a better, more rewarding customer experience. Our vision is to ensure we listen and learn. It will take time, effort and a lot of work to create meaningful, systemic and lasting change – and we are committed to do so. René F.
