Wilmington Trust awarded the “leader spinnaker” to the winning boat in each day’s heat for the J/105 fleet for the 2014 Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta at Marblehead Race Week.Wilmington Trust is the official financial services sponsor for this year’s Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta at Marblehead Race Week, which runs July 24-27. The wealth and investment management firm conceived the leader’s spinnaker award to recognize winners for their exceptional performance in the J/105 class races.
“We hope the leader spinnaker award will become a tradition at Marblehead Race Week,” said Will Parizeau, market leader for Wilmington Trust’s Wealth Advisory office in Boston. “Wilmington Trust is pleased to support the efforts of the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta and the Marblehead Racing Association, and wish the very best to all boats and their crews.”
“Thanks to Wilmington Trust, presenting a daily award to the best J/105 sailors recognizes that team as the one to beat in the following day’s race,” said George Brengle, executive director of the NOOD Regattas and director of marketing for Sailing World magazine.
The J/105 boat with the lowest cumulative score at the end of Race Week will be awarded the Wilmington Trust spinnaker to keep at Sunday night’s awards ceremony. The spinnaker, created by internationally-recognized sailmaker North Sails, is composed of a black background with Wilmington Trust’s name and logo in white and gray, respectively (see attached photo).
The Sperry Top-Sider Marblehead NOOD Regatta is one of the seven National Offshore One Design (NOOD) regattas organized by the publishers of Cruising World and Sailing World magazine every year. The regattas are hosted by America’s most prestigious yacht clubs in major metropolitan markets, and have grown to become one of the most popular sailing regatta series in the U.S., second only to the America’s Cup.
Marblehead Race Week is hosted by three major Boston-area yacht clubs—Corinthian Yacht Club, Boston Yacht Club, and Eastern Yacht Club. Race Week is managed by the Marblehead Racing Association (MRA), a volunteer organization comprised of race committee chairs and designated representatives from the three yacht clubs. The MRA is responsible for scheduling and coordinating both one-design and PHRF racing each season.
The MRA is committed to ensuring that Marblehead continues to be one of the world’s premier yacht racing venues. The MRA works to improve the quality of Marblehead racing, while ensuring fun and safety for all competitors. Learn more at www.mheadrace.org.
