Wilmington Trust, one of the leading wealth management companies headquartered in the U.S., announced today that it has hired Matthew J. Canner as a senior private client advisor to serve the company’s Family Wealth clients.

Wilmington Trust’s Family Wealth services comprise financial and risk management, including cash flow management; tax and accounting services; investment oversight, including asset allocation, manager selection, and consolidated reporting; and charitable giving management services, complemented by industry-leading personal trust, estate planning, and fiduciary services.

Canner will be based in Wilmington, Del., and will serve Wilmington Trust’s clients nationally. He will report to William T. LaFond, managing director of business development for Wilmington Trust’s Family Wealth group.

“Matt brings considerable expertise to our Family Wealth team,” said Mark A. Graham, head of Wealth Advisory Services. “His knowledge of our business and the resources needed to effectively serve the complex needs of our clients will be a tremendous asset as we continue to build our wealth management business.”

Canner brings more than 15 years of financial experience to his role. He joins Wilmington Trust from Knight Capital Group, Inc. where he served as director of institutional sales. Previously, he was senior vice president for financial planning with U.S. Trust Company in New York, providing comprehensive financial, investment, and estate planning services for high-net-worth clients. Earlier in his career, Canner served as senior financial counselor with Ernst & Young, LLP in New York.

He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is an active member of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Leadership Council, serving as University of Pennsylvania Class of ’94 president. Canner is also active on several nonprofit boards of directors, including Career Gear, a New York City-based organization committed to helping disconnected men empower themselves to become readily employable and better members of their communities through professional development and mentoring.
